![]() I tried a demo copy of Celtic Pipes, and loved it because of (1) the professional quality of the page, (2) the PC-Mac compatibility and (3) its flexibility. I now use Piob Master only if someone sends me a tune in. It was so inflexible, unfriendly and crash-prone that I made the effort of re-writing all 50 pages of tunes in. I bought Piob Master for piob mhor music because my band’s tunes were written in it. I wouldn’t want to knock someone else’s tradition, just because I didn’t happen to like it! Good luck with the smallpipes my the way - a lovely instrument. If anyone thinks that the world of TM starts and ends with Ireland, they are the ones who are bigoted, not me! In this world of canned music, I think that it’s important to support all forms of TM. And as much as I like playing ITM, I appreciate lots of other forms of TM as well. And why can’t people read the question? I didn’t even mention Scotland. Regarding the response from SUS, I’m aware that many people think that the world of pipes starts and ends in Scotland, but I’m certainly not one of them. If this is the case, I did indeed ask the questions in the wrong place. And I don’t suppose many of those folks look at this particular website. On giving the matter more thought though, I assume that the reason is because it is only pipers playing in pipe bands that need to be concerned about pre-ordained ornamentation - which probably limits my target responders to Piob Mhor and Breton. And with nearly 50,000 members, I thought there might be someone out there who would be able to answer my questions - but so far, no-one really has. I’m aware that this is primarily an ITM site, but I also know that some other types of tunes get posted, and that other related traditional topics get discussed as well. (I too know that there are many sorts of bagpipe - I even own several different sorts and can almost play some of them… I tend to concentrate on the Highland fingering systems (BP, SSP, GHB) when I am not playing flute though.) ↳Ĭrackp - thank you for your response. My goal is always to get it into my ears and then into my fingers. Often transcribing it myself by hand and with slow-downer software. I tend only to use sheet music when trying to work out what is going on. ![]() But I am not in the position of trying to get sheet music together for a pipe band so it isn’t really that critical. I tend to write BAGPIPE music out by hand, or use abc2Win and think of the ornaments myself. My general reaction would be to leave a discussion to those who are interested in it. Correct though SUS is, would it not have shown a more self-secure attitude to ignore the original post instead of snapping at Mix O’? Or an appropriate response for this forum which would have been “Why should we discuss Scottish bagpipes on an Irish traditional music forum?”.
